Recent evidence has revealed that the intense, hot stellar winds of Wolf-Rayet stars are highly structured and far from the smooth picture one had up to less than a decade ago. Among the most important consequences is the need for a reduction in the mass-loss rates based on a smooth-wind interpretation, by a factor 2-3. Even more recent is our detection of very similar structure in the wind of the bright O-star ζ Puppis. If all hot-star winds show this structure, as we suspect, the consequences will be enormous. For example, with the implied reduction in mass-loss rates, calculations of stellar evolution for all massive stars will have to be totally reconsidered. This will also have an important impact on the interpretation of starbursts, ranging from giant HII regions to distant starburst galaxies. We propose to use the CTIO 4m to test whether this is so or not, on a sample of O stars with observable winds.
