The global pattern of the longitudinal variations of the equatorial anomaly is obtained on the basis of Intercosmos-19 data. These data show the presence of stable longitudinal variations of electron density in the F2 maximum at the magnetic equator and related longitudinal variations of the entire near-equatorial ionosphere in the geomagnetic-latitude range up to + or - 40 deg. The character of this relationship as well as the correlation with equatorial-electrojet intensity leads to the conclusion that there exist stable longitudinal variations of vertical electrodynamic drift, which determine the longitudinal variations of the equatorial ionosphere.
