It is suggtested that protons with an energy of 5 keV observed in the solar wind in front of the bow shock may have a magnetospheric origin. These protons propagate in the sunward direction from the bow shock along the IMF lines. Magnetospheric convection transports plasma-sheet protons from the night to the day side, from which they propagate into the solar wind along the reconnected force lines of the IMF and the geomagnetic field. The properties of these particles are investigated.
