Some of the basic theoretical stability properties of jets and the resulting astrophysical jet structures will be reviewed. Numerical simulations designed to examine the non-linear development of instability and some results from comparison between simulations and theory will be presented. Examples of observed large scale structures on astrophysical jets will be shown along with some general properties of these structures. Identification of observed structures with experimentally determined, numerically determined or theoretically determined structures ultimately may provide estimates of otherwise unobservable MHD jet properties, whether the jets are magnetically or kinetically dominated, and how they maintain the stability required to propagate to the large observed distances.
