Shallow water theory, which is not necessary a linear theory, is successfully used to study a wide variety of geophysical fluid problems for decades. In the recent years, this theory has been extended to the magnetohydrodynamic case. MHD shallow water equations, which are considerably simpler than the full MHD equations, were applied to study astrophysical objects such as the solar tacholine. Here, we discuss the linear and nonlinear waves in the MHD shallow water system using a general expansion scheme. It is interesting to see whether solitary waves exist in addition to the Alfvén and manetogravity waves.
