On 27 February 2006 the spacecraft Cassini encountered the Saturnian satellite Titan, at a closest approach altitude of approximately 1800 km. The spacecraft was tracked from Deep Space Network antennas in coherent, two- and three-way mode throughout closest approach. A total of about 2000 Doppler data points were acquired at a sampling rate of 60 s +/- 1 day from closest approach, with an average rms noise of about 1 mHz at X-band (corresponding to a one-leg spacecraft range rate measurement error of 0.02 mm/s). The nearly equatorial pass allowed a good determination only of C22, while the uncertainties in J2 were large. The accurate determination of the full quadrupole field will be possible from three other Titan flybys devoted to gravity, to occur in December 2006 and February and December 2007. By combining data from the four flybys we expect also a determination the elastic response of Titan to the variable tidal field of Saturn, which causes a periodicity in the quadrupole coefficients. We report on the status of the data analysis and the results of orbital simulations for the four Titan gravity flybys.
