A tilt term, together with coma terms, is noted to constitute an expansion of image centroid position after propagation through atmospheric turbulence in the framework of Zernike polynomial coefficients; centroid anisoplanatism therefore arises from turbulence-induced coma distortions. The deleterious effects of centroid anisoplanatism can be reduced to any desired level by means of a correction of coma effects to a sufficiently high order. The Strehl ratio is given by an asymptotic formula.
