The Yang - Mills - Higgs equations in a spatially bounded subset of the
Minkowski space are studied under the assumption of a temporal gauge. It
is shown that the Cauchy problem for these equations is uniquely
solvable (locally in time) if nonhomogeneous boundary conditions of the
metallic type are imposed.
