We present the X-ray analysis of 17 Type II (obscured) AGN selected from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) based on their high [OIII] flux. Using the ratio of L2-10keV/L[OIII] as well as equivalent width (EW) measurements of the Fe K-alpha line, we determine the number of likely Compton-thick sources. Three targets are likely Compton thick (L2-10/L[OIII] < 1 and Fe K-alpha EW around 1 keV or higher), five are strong Compton thick candidates (L2-10keV/L[OIII] < 1 and EW upper limits around 1 keV), and 2 are possible Compton thick candidates (L2-10keV/L[OIII] < 1 and unconstrained EW).
We also investigate any possible relationship between star formation in these AGN and soft X-ray luminosity. Though we do not find any global trends, 8 of the 17 targets do have observed soft X-ray luminosity consistent with that predicted from the star formation rate in the host galaxy. The soft X-ray emission from these sources is therefore likely due to star formation processes.
