Scientific paper

The paper describes two short beam X-ray test facilities operational at MPI since 1976. These consist of high power X-ray sources, 15 m and 10 m, respectively, long vacuum tubes and instrument chambers equipped with an optical bench and high precision manipulator systems for positioning of the test specimen. Attention is also given to investigations performed which consisted of measuring X-ray surface scattering from polished flat mirror samples and imaging telescopes, testing of imaging X-ray detectors and efficiency measurements of X-ray transmission gratings. Finally, attention is given to plans for extending the 15 m facility to 130 m for the testing and calibration of an 80 cm Wolter telescope.
