Calculations for the minimum detectable narrow emission line equivalent width are presented for the flat crystal spectrometer on ANS and for curved crystal, objective grating, and solid state detector spectrometers on HEAO-B. Data from the ANS spectrometer are presented. The geometry of the instruments is presented and the effects of spacecraft drift, source extension, and line broadening on the performance of the instruments is discussed.
