BROWN AND CRAIG REPLY-We do not refute the value of very high resolution spectrometry to atomic physics, nor in astrophysical abundance and line profile studies. However, grant proposals for satellite spectrometers of λ/Δλ ~= 103 usually identify ξ(T) measurement as a primary aim (recognising that atomic line identification is harder to justify in an astronomy budget). Concerning the inference of ξ(T) we reply:
