Measured by clock time the earliest sunrise and latest sunset do not
occur at the summer solstices nor do the latest sunrise and earliest
sunset occur on 21 December. This discrepancy disappears when
corrections to clock time are made to take into account the earth's
changing speed around its orbit and the tilt of the equatorial plane.
