Hst Proposal Id #4876

Scientific paper

This proposal is intended to exploit the ability of the GHRS to obtain very high quality data of very weak interstellar absorption lines. We propose here to obtain ECH-B data of a very weak transition of Si II at 2335 A toward Zeta Oph. High quality data of stronger Si II already exist for this target. However, these stronger require large corrections for the presence of saturation. This weak line will be free of such corrections and so will allow the Si II abundance to be more reliably measured.
