An equation is obtained which describes magnetobaroclinic waves at the boundary of the earth's core in a thin layer of stably stratified fluid with exponential stratification. Traveling short and global waves with a harmonic dependence on longitude are examined. A possible relationship between these waves and certain unexplained geomagnetic variations is examined.
