The present investigation of the formation and evolution of convective water clouds in the Jovian troposphere calculates vertical and radial wind components, and the liquid and ice content of the clouds, by means of an axisymmetric model with parameterized microphysics. Attention is given to the role of condensate mass-loading in the dynamic evolution of the cloud. The model shows water clouds reaching the ammonia condensation level only under conditions in which the temperature and relative humidity profiles ensure instability to moist convection over a large depth of the troposphere.
