Scientific paper

We present a VLA A-configuration imaging survey of 136 compact steep- spectrum radio sources. These are selected to have a spectral index steeper than 0.9 and a size smaller than 30". These sources are all in the declination range +/-4^deg^. Single-frequency maps of 136 sources, along with 11 sources mapped at two frequencies, are presented. The accurate positions of these sources derived from the maps are now being used to perform CCD imaging and spectroscopy.
