When viscous effects are considered in the analysis of relativistic systems, viscoelastic effects should be included in order to avoid a propagation of viscous signals with infinite speed. In this paper, the influence of such viscoelastic effects on the evolution of a Friedmann-Robertson-Walker universe is studied. In the limit of strong viscoelastic effects the dependence of the scale factor R with t is given by different exponents than in the situation when bulk viscous pressure is completely ignored.
