The paper describes the physical background of the devices used for obtaining polarized light. Some virtual experiments are also proposed to illustrate the changes in the light polarization state. The Java applets offer the possibility to modify the polarization state of the incident beam; the relative orientation of the transmission directions of the polarizers and also the quarter-wave plate rotation around the propagation direction.
