Very high energy (VHE) gamma-ray astronomy has experimented a rapid development thanks to a second generation of imaging atmospheric Cherenkov telescopes (IACTs) currently in operation. At present more than 70 sources of VHE gamma-rays have been found. Among them supernova remnants are a particularly interesting category since they could be the main source of galactic cosmic rays. A summary of the results obtained, as well as the possible scenarios that can explain the VHE emission from each of the SNRs observed by IACTs, are presented here.
