The mass spectrometer aboard the Elektron-2 satellite performed daytime measurements of He(+) ion concentration at heights of 400 to 2000 km during February to May 1964, a solar minimum year. The maximum in the vertical profile of He(+) concentration was located below an intermediate level where He(+) concentration equals O(+) concentration, and a gap was observed in the vertical profile of He(+) concentration at a height of 600 km. This gap is explained by a change in sign of the O(+) ion flux at 600 km.
