The SKY2000 Master Star Catalog is a compilation of basic data for approximately 300K stars to a limiting magnitude of between 9 and 10 visual. The current catalog's predecessors have been used for many years for satellite acquisition and attitude determination on NASA spacecraft. Version 1 of SKY2000 was an almost complete rebuild of the old SKYMAP catalog using the most recent data sources, while adding red magnitudes to better suit the CCD star trackers now common on NASA missions. Version 2 has been significantly improved, principally by the incorporation of data from the ESA Hipparcos astrometric mission. The Hipparcos and Tycho catalogs provide high-quality astrometric and photometric data for virtually all SKY2000 stars. In addition, we have been able to make considerable improvements to the data for double and variable stars.
