The long intervals of bright Earthshine that will illuminate the interior of the Optical Telescope Assemby and Light Shield during many of the orbits during the December 1995 Continuous Viewing Zone observation of the Hubble Deep Field provide an opportunity for an end-to-end test of our engineering model of the HST background light. Previously we have used archival data to verify our model is accurate at the 40%-level in the visible and near-IR wavebands. The four-filter Hubble Deep Field observations themselves may be used to test the angular and wavelength dependance of our model in blue through near-IR wavebands. However, to test the ultraviolet predictions of our model it is necessary to acquire new data, since archival data are not sufficiently sensitive. Such verification is important so that this model may be used with confidence to plan more sensitive STIS and ACS exposures. These proposed engineering observations will utilize six days of parallel mode exposures with the Faint Object Spectrograph to measure the background light in the LambdaLambda2,400Angstromenspace -- 7,000Angstromenspace waveband.
