The velocity distribution of the Cs atomic beam in an optically pumped Cs atomic frequency standard was measured. The velocity distribution was obtained from a set of Fourier transforms of Ramsey signals recorded at three microwave power levels. From the obtained velocity distribution, the excitation amplitude parameter and the normalized 2nd-order Doppler shift for the optimum power of the microwave were determined.
