The Vega 2 lander experiment, designed to study the elemental composition of the surface at the region of the Terra mountains on Venus, is described. Special attention is given to the design of the detector unit in the X-ray fluorescence spectrometer and to the analysis of the fluorescence spectra. The analysis of the rock sample, using the ITERA program of Yu et al. (1983) and the in situ abundance data of Yu et al. (1986) on natural radioactive elements, shows that in the northern part of Aphrodite Terra there are rocks whose composition most resembles that of the anorthosite-norite-troctolite group, widely distributed on the lunar surface.
