Since its launch on-board the Thermosphere Ionosphere Mesosphere Energetics and Dynamics (TIMED) satellite in December 2001, the Global Ultraviolet Imager (GUVI) has nearly five years of observations of equatorial plasma bubbles. Multi-dimensional electron density profiles can be tomographically reconstructed from ultraviolet brightness observations. These reconstructions provide values for the height and electron density of the F-region peak as well as images of equatorial plasma bubbles. The reconstructed altitude vs. longitude profile allows for characterization of the structure of depletions and their locations. Case studies highlight key results from a long-term database of plasma bubble reconstructions. Ionosonde measurements are used to validate the altitude profile of the background ionosphere for the bubble reconstructions. Comparisons with overlapping Jicamarca Unattended Long-term Investigations of the Atmosphere (JULIA) plasma bubble observations validate the reconstructed plasma bubble structures and illustrate how space- based ultraviolet observations of plasma bubbles complement ground-based measurements.
