It is found that vacuum string solutions cannot be embedded in an FRW
model in the spirit of the swiss cheese model for inhomogeneities. Since
all standard lensing calculations rely implicitly on the swiss cheese
model, this result indicates that the previous lensing results for the
vacuum string may be in error.
