In this article, we present the mercury dithizonate which is a photochromic compound used in our visualization experiment in hydrodynamics. We describe its chemical preparation and its photochemical properties. Finally, we apply the mercury dithizonate to the measurement of mass diffusivity coefficients in liquids by forced Rayleigh scattering.
