While reddenings can be accurately determined in directions of relatively low reddening (e.g, E(B-V) < 0.25 mag) using either the Burstein & Heiles method or the Schlegel et al. method, there are intrinsic problems in determining accurate reddenings in directons of high reddening. It is shown here that we can use the stellar population properties of galaxies, including giant ellipticals and early-type spirals, to determine reddenings accurate to E(B-V) = 0.05 mag for lines-of-sight that have E(B-V) = 0.50 mag or larger (typical of lines-of-sight reddenings within the Zone of Avoidance).
