Reviews of the unmanned Mars exploration missions and their candidate spacecraft are presented. The results of initial analyses are reported for the following: (1) Mars transfer orbits; (2) launching by H-2 launch vehicles and injection into Mars orbits; and (3) return-to-earth orbits. The purpose, system outline, and necessary equipment are presented for the following spacecraft: (1) Mars Moon Sample Return (MMSR) (from Phobos and Deimos); (2) Mars Landing Explorer (MALE); and (3) Mars Mobile Explorer (MAME).
