We show that the Uhlmann fidelity between arbitrary Gaussian states is fully determined by the properties of the product of the two density operators. This one is a non-Hermitian unnormalized Gaussian operator whose trace and symplectic eigenvalues are the only quantities entering the expression of the fidelity for states with any number of modes. Especially useful as a measure of distinguishability in various branches of quantum physics, fidelity between arbitrary two-mode Gaussian states is finally written and discussed.
