A survey is presented of the theoretical and experimental literature regarding gravitational effects on turbulent flow and heat transfer in vertical and horizontal pipes. In particular, the effect of thermogravitational forces on averaged velocity and temperature fields as well as on the pulsational characteristics of the flow is examined. Experimental data on ascending and descending flow in pipes during heating are examined.
