Young supernova remnants are thought to be the main source of Galactic cosmic-ray protons and nuclei, and recent observations of non-thermal X-rays and TeV gamma-ray emission are providing strong hints towards this picture. A key missing ingredient concerns the spatial distribution of molecular gas which is the target material for cosmic-ray collisions. This proposal will employ Mopra to map the shocked and/or disrupted molecular gas in the 7mm SiO(J=1-0) line towards the western part of RXJ1713.7-3946, one of the brightest X-ray and TeV gamma-ray supernova 'shells' in the sky. Our focus is towards the peak brightness in TeV gamma-rays and CO(J-2-1) observations, which also contains star formation regions traced by infrared and a CO(J=3-4) core. These observations will provide vital information to confirm the nature of cosmic-ray particles accelerated, and whether or not the star formation plays a role in addition to the supernova shock.
