Preliminary results of measurements of the trace atmospheric constituents nitric oxide, the metastable O2(1 Delta g) and ozone in the mesosphere and lower thermosphere during two winter anomaly events are presented. Skylark rockets launched from El Arenosillo, Spain as part of the Western European Winter anomaly Campaign during periods of high radio wave absorption were used to determine the density profiles of nitric oxide and O2(1 Delta g) from the resonance re-emission of the ultraviolet band around 215 nm and oxygen emission at 1.27 microns, respectively; ozone profiles were calculated from the metastable O2 data. Results are plotted and compared with previous measurements, noting the intermediate maximum of nitric oxide concentration observed at 87 km and the increase of overall ozone content, especially in the 80 to 90 km region, with respect to nonanomalous conditions.
