The conclusions, recommendations, and target design parameters for a 100 m class optical space interferometer recommended for launch by the ESA around the year 2005 are summarized. A successful Solar Interferometric Mission for Ultrahigh Resolution Imaging Spectroscopy (SIMURIS) mission will help the cause of space interferometry in many ways. Since the SIMURIS design cannot easily be extended to long baselines and faint objects, it should be seen as a direct precursor to a 'stellar' interferometer.
