We propose an economic solution for a single electrode cochlear implant
guaranteeing not only speech discrimination but also tinnitus suppression. The
device operates with a new mechanism for high-pitch perception, in which a
system of multiple neurons can resolve frequencies higher than the frequency
associated with the mean refractory period up to a multiple thereof.
