This thesis investigates, in turn, the consequences of adding new particles to each of three sectors of the standard model of particle physics. These are the lepton, hadron and Higgs boson sectors. In each case, one is motivated to make such additions either by experimental observation or theoretical prejudice and the goals of the work are to show that the new features cause none of the existing constraints to be violated and to suggest future experiments to test the expanded model.
