The tidal torques exerted by a secondary star on a viscous accretion disk in a close binary system are calculated by the following two methods: (1) a linear perturbation method, and (2) a non-linear method based on simple periodic particle orbit in the binary potential. It is found that the tidal effects are generally small in the accretion disk, except near to the tidal truncation radius, which is given by the last non-intersecting periodic particle orbit in the disk. The non-linear tidal effects become significant only near the tidal truncation radius.
