The tendency of galaxies in binary systems to tidally disrupt one another will be investigated analytically for galaxy pairs with a variety of orbital and morphological properties. The results of this investigation will be used in conjunction with observations of tidally disrupted pair members and results of other investigators' N-body experiments in an attempt to place constraints on the distribution of mass in binary galaxies and on the nature of their orbits. This work, which will form the basis of my Ph.D. dissertation, is supported by the University of Minnesota Physics Department.
