The TING (Thermosphere/Ionosphere Nested Grid) model, a nested grid/general circulation model, has been running nearly continuously in real-time as a "now-cast" and "short-term forecast" Space Weather capability for global thermosphere-ionosphere specification for over two years, starting in November 1999 to the present. The results of these runs are routinely published on the world wide web at http://sparc-1.si.umich.edu/sparc/central. Because the Space Physics and Aeronomy Research Collaboratory (SPARC) system also displays real-time output from running Incoherent Scatter Radars, ionosondes and satellite and much other data, it is possible to validate the real-time version of the TING model. In addition, it has proven possible to make an assessment of the opportunities and difficulties in running the model in this mode. Over the past year and a half, preliminary efforts have been made to integrate this model with the Lyon-Fedder-Mobarry (LFM) magnetospheric model. Simulations of a geomagnetic storm using this coupled model have been made in both the one-way sense (where there is no ionospheric/thermospheric feedback to the magnetosphere), and in a two-way sense (where such feedback occurs). At present some preliminary validation of these results has occurred, however it is anticipated that further validation will be undertaken using the facilities available through SPARC and the CCMC.
