The thermosolutal instability of a plasma in a porous medium in the presence of a vertical magnetic field is examined, accounting for the effects of compressibility and Hall currents. It is found that a stable solute gradient and compressibility are stabilizing, while Hall currents are destabilizing. The conditions for stability, the introduction of oscillatory modes, and overstability are considered.
