Scientific paper

The paper presents a theoretical analysis of a thermomagnetic instability that can develop in a slightly collisional magnetoactive cosmic plasma in the presence of developed turbulence and ion drift with respect to electrons that is orthogonal to the magnetic field. The instability leads to the growth of disturbances of plasma temperature and magnetic field. It is suggested that this mechanism may be responsible for the formation of the hot diamagnetic cavities that have been observed in the solar wind near the bow shock.
