The distribution of plasma density around a metallic cylinder situated in a collisionless plasma is determined by using the system of Vlassov equations and the Poisson equation. The situation is idealized and a real body is replaced by an infinitely long metallic cylinder which absorbs or discharges all charged particles impinging on its surface. The method for solving the nonlinear integro-differential equation describing the boundary conditions is outlined, and a radial density profile (representing the plasma wake) with a plateau-like structure is presented for a plasma at rest with no magnetic field for different meshes in configuration and velocity space. It is shown that a magnetic field will produce an axymmetric wake if the gyration radius of the ions approaches the radius of the cylinder.
