The height, latitude, and seasonal features of the velocity field of the large-scale vortex in the morning and evening ionosphere at heights of 90-400 km are studied in detail on the basis of numerical calculations. It is shown that, in the summer morning ionosphere at heights of 90-240 km, the neutral atmosphere (not subject to the decelerating effect of ionospheric plasma) moves at a higher velocity than the conducting atmosphere. The greatest decrease of wind velocity occurs at 240-270 km, below the morning hmF2 level.
