Scientific paper

The Vega 1 and 2 descent modules entered the Venus atmosphere on June 11 and 15, 1985, respectively, at respective entry angles of 18.23 and 19.08 deg and entry velocities of 10.75 and 10.80 km/s. Consideration is given to the descent-module operations, including entry into the atmosphere, parachute deployment, jettisoning of the upper hemisphere, jettisoning of the lower hemisphere, jettisoning of the drag chute, and landing. Also presented is a plot of temperature and pressure variations in the Venus atmosphere during the descent of Vega-2.
