This paper summarises some of the uses, present and future, which are being made by the European Space Operations Centre (ESOC) of the Hipparcos and Tycho Catalogues. The Hipparcos mission has itself benefited from provisional results obtained from the initial data processing. The ISO mission operations were also improved through the use of a revised guide star catalogue based on provisional Tycho results. Finally the Flight Dynamics Division at ESOC is developing a generic star catalogue facility for future missions, which will use the results of the Hipparcos mission as a primary input.
