The Faraday rotation technique is applied to study the features of the variations of the total columnar electron content at an equatorial station. Absence of a noon bite-out and the occurrence of a maximum near 1430 L.M.T. are some of the regular characteristics of the diurnal variation. Seasonal variations of ionization density in low-latitude stations are considered; and it is suggested that distance from the magnetic equator determines whether or not a low-latitude station will exhibit a seasonal anomaly. The diurnal development of the equatorial anomaly in the total columnar ionization is presented in evidence. An all-season asymmetry in the equatorial anomaly is indicated; and problems relating to evidence presented are outlined.
