It is shown that during midsummer at a latitude where the magnetic dip is 40° the sunrise effects at heights between 400 and 700 km in the topside ionosphere occur near the time of sunrise at 100 km. Sunrise effects at 900 km are noticed half-an-hour later than this. During the sunrise period the plasma temperature increases by about 60 per cent for several hours.
