In this paper a new theoretical method is used to calculate the light curve of a three-axis ellipsoid asteroid starting from the Euler's equation of free rotation, the free inertial rotation of a three-axis ellipsoid model is discussed, and the change of position of its rotational axis in its interior and in space is calculated numerically, and the light curve is obtained. It turns out that it is irrational for the basic assumption that the direction of the rotation axis in space is unchanging, as appeared in previous research work on the light variation of asteroids. It is believed that the change of position of the rotation axis caused by the free rotation of asteroids would have an important effect on the deviation of the theoretical light curve from the observational light curve.
