The Test Field Model (TFM) is an analytic theory of turbulence which can be obtained directly from the hierarchy of turbulence moment equations and the hypothesis of the linear relaxation of triple correlations. This relaxation is studied here by means of an auxiliary problem: the advection of a Test Field by a turbulent flow. A simplification of the TFM equations is proposed where the number of unknowns in the numerical solution is proportional to the number of retained modes. A new closure problem is posed for the Test Field and the TFM equations for a three-dimensional homogeneous isotropic turbulence without helicity are written in explicit form. The TFM is applied to the problem of steady-state homogeneous isotropic turbulence at very large Reynolds numbers for the two and three dimensional cases.
